Experience in bodily injury claims

Dr. Anabela Ribeirinho is part of the ABRS team and supervises the firm’s Work Accident, Traffic Accident and Bodily Injury practice.

She graduated in Law from Universidade Católica Portuguesa, in Porto, and has been admitted to the Portuguese Bar Association since 2018. Throughout her career, Dr. Anabela Ribeirinho has focused her legal practice on civil liability, with particular emphasis on bodily injury claims arising from road traffic accidents and workplace accidents.

At the beginning of her career, she worked in litigation involving insurance companies, which gave her direct insight into how insurers assess, negotiate and defend claims involving physical injuries, permanent impairment, loss of income, medical expenses and compensation for pain and suffering.

Over more than ten years of professional activity, she has developed significant experience in civil liability disputes arising from traffic accidents, work accidents and other bodily injury cases, having represented more than one hundred clients in matters involving road accident litigation, workplace injury claims and related labour law issues.

Between 2015 and 2021, she also taught Tax Law at ISCAP — Porto Accounting and Business School.

Statement

Legal practice in the field of traffic accidents, work accidents and bodily injury claims in Portugal often reveals a profound imbalance between the parties involved.

On one side, there are insurance companies, usually supported by experienced legal teams, medical consultants and significant institutional resources. On the other side, there is often an injured person facing physical pain, uncertainty, financial pressure, loss of income, medical treatment, permanent limitations and a lack of access to clear legal information.

Although the Portuguese legal aid system seeks to reduce this imbalance, access to legal protection can itself be bureaucratic, complex and slow. In practice, many injured people struggle to obtain timely and specialised legal support at the moment when they need it most.

My work in this area is guided by the need to reduce that asymmetry. The goal is to help injured people understand their rights, assess the real value of their bodily injury claim and face insurers with proper legal representation, technical preparation and dignity.
